1Fort-de-France — departure8:00–8:30 am
Pick-up in Fort-de-France or at your accommodation. Agnès suggests leaving early: usually lighter traffic, cooler rainforest temperatures and easier parking at popular stops. Northern routes require time on the road.
2Sacré-Cœur de Balata churchAbout 15 min
An easy first photo stop without a long walk. The church resembles Sacré-Cœur in Montmartre, Paris, with green hills and beautiful views around it.
3Jardin de BalataAbout 1 hr–1 hr 15 min
One of Martinique’s best-known tropical gardens: exotic flowers, palms, ferns and suspended walkways. A photogenic way to enjoy tropical nature without a demanding hike.
Admission is paid. Confirm the current ticket price and visit availability before departure.
4Route de la TraceAbout 45 min
A drive with short stops through rainforest, ferns and mountains. The winding scenic road is an attraction in its own right.
5Saut du Gendarme — Fonds-Saint-DenisAbout 15–20 min
A roughly 10-metre waterfall surrounded by rainforest. A short walk down steps from the car park, with time for photos and a break. There are picnic areas nearby.
Steps may be slippery after rain — wear closed shoes. Swimming is not a guaranteed part of the tour; water levels can rise quickly during rainfall.
6Depaz distilleryAbout 30–45 min
Agricultural rum and a beautiful estate at the foot of Montagne Pelée. Discover rum-making traditions; tasting may be possible for adults, subject to availability.
7Historic Saint-PierreAbout 15–20 min
The story of the 1902 Montagne Pelée eruption, ruins, a museum, the promenade and sea views. A lunch stop can be arranged here if included in the agreed programme.
8Seaside Le CarbetAbout 25 min
A quiet seaside town with dark volcanic sand and coastal views. Time for a coffee, photographs or a short rest before returning.
If you prefer not to visit the waterfall, a short beach break can be chosen instead.
Duration depends on the chosen programme and time spent visiting. Without lunch or a garden visit, allow at least about 3 hr 30 min from Fort-de-France. A fuller programme may take up to about 6 hours.
Price and availability require confirmation by Agnès. Admission, tastings and meals are not automatically included. The programme depends on weather, road conditions and attraction availability.
